Default D series tranny swap.

okay im hella frustrated, why? because the everyones tryin to rip me off!! so far i've gone to over 11 junkyards in my surrounding area and everyone tries to sell the tranny for 100 if not more. i went to a few that wanted 250!! im mean.. shiett!.
anyways, my question is this. i've gone to forums after forums and everyone says the same thing, you cant switch over an 88-91 d series tranny to a 92 + civic. what i want to kno is why not? besides it being cable clutch tranny, i've used heads and blocks off of 89+ crx and civics and they've all fit fine, and if im correct, if the blocks have the same bolt up pattern, than theres not reason why the tranny shouldnt bolt right on right? well the only obstacle is it being cable and not hydro.
me and my dad have swapped transmissions on alot of cars and on some, if they didnt bolt up aslong as they were similar transmissions we simply swapped the housing over from the old tranny to the new one. i dont understand why i cant do this with mine? i've tried to open it up but it seems as if its got some sort of lock or pin that doesnt let it open all the way, i can fit my figure between the crack taht thats as far as the housing will seperate from the gear box of the tranny. i have a 92 civic dx incase anyones wondering. any help is appreciated
