d series tranny?

Default d series tranny?

i want to switch my tranny can any d series tranny fit on my y7 block and also whats a good tranny i asking cause i just found out i have a bad input shaft bearing so im thinking of switching the tranny let me know thanks

just replace the ISB. It's honnestly only $100 or less in parts from honda.

Oil seals, isb, hondabond, etc.

well, you can go a couple diffrent routes. A tranny makes a lot of things happen and is often negectled. If it was me, i'd rebuild the tranny, do a gear swap and add in a lsd.. no one wheel burnouts for me kthnx

now if you just want a good easy tranny fix, grab yourself the y8 or z6 tranny, and of course while its out change the clutch, throwout bearing, etc

or.. just replace the input bearing 100$ ?

if your gonna drop your car off at a garage instead of doing your own work, i'd just go with the tranny swap. Once a shop hear they have to open a tranny case they get panicky

ISB is like $18 bucks from the dealer.

think about it like this:

you'll take the trans off anyways, cost of parts are like $25, which makes it $75 less than a "new" trans that you have no clue the condition of.

spend 3 hours if it's your first time to replace the bearing, and that's the equiv of making $25 an hour.

I spent about $100 on my tranny because I added in a case of brake cleaner, a container of urea grease, and a tube of Grey SuperRTV. If you don't have those things, get them. Clean that tranny till it shines, grease all your seals, and make sure you seal your tranny propperly.

Also, make sure you rent a slide-hammer, a bearing puller, and a multi-shim bearing pusher. You attach the puller to the slide hammer to get the bearring out, and you use the bearing pusher with a mallet to knock the new one into place. Also nice for hammering in your oil seals.

What didn't I need? I used all of that. The only "optional" thing I see in my list is the brake clean.

Personally, I would just change it out, a lot cheaper. Though if you want to change the entire tranny out I'm pretty sure any D-series tranny will fit that engine.

Not positive....call it 85% sure.

EDIT:
Blah, and that doesn't include the DOHC ZC b/c I really ahve no idea about that.

Personal preference. I figure if I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna do it right. The tranny I just rebuilt was BLACK on the outside, and full of plastic chunks and old fluid on the inside. And oil seals are just safety. Better to get it out of the way while you have the tranny cracked then when they go bad and you have to crack the housing again.

Did I prove you wrong? I posted what I would do, you told me I didn't need to do it, I posted my reasoning. Niether of us are wrong. If you're posting for the sole reason of "who's wrong/right" then you should just quit, too.

It's true, that it's not necessary to replace oil seals.
It's also true that it's a good idea to do it anyways, because it's all of $25.

We're both right. Calm.

Just fix your input shaft bearing.. If you want something else get yourself a z6 tranny.,. Stronger than the y8..

The steel shift forks in the y8 have no webbing and bend easily.. The z6 aluminum forks have huge massive webbing that resist bending..

If you are going to keep your car stock and just want it a bit zippier get the shorter geared tranny.. I went turbo and with the y7 tranny 3rd gear topped out at about 120+.. Burned quite a few s2k's on the freeway up to that point and they would start to pull.. The shorter geared tranny is funner in the city...

You could also rebuild your current tranny and slap in a replacement in the meantime..

And Yes any d series hydro tranny will work in your car....
