Custom transmission ratios
I've seen a few people mention it before but never really saw any info on it, I thought it would be nice to have a faster 1st-4th and like an overdrive type ratio for 5th, I've heard of some people using Si 1st-4th gears and an Lx 5th, I was really curious as to how this is done. Any info on this would be great.

Re: Custom transmission ratios
JDM 98+ type R trans have the shortest 1-3 gears. and use the same 4&5 as a GSR. and have a Final Drive of 4.7
USDM (ALL) and JDM Type R up till 97 have a shorter 4-5 but have a final drive of 4.4
Gsr has the next shortest gearing, then B16, and then the LS having the longest.
Best idea would be to have a 98+ JDM type R trans, adding an LS 5th which would lower your highway RPM's, but only about 500 rpms, which really isn't worth it.

Re: Custom transmission ratios
I guess it would help if i through in some info, Right now i have a d15b7 in an LX sedan, with the motor pretty much dying out, i want to swap in a rebuilt Z6 with the Ex/Si tranny but i want to have a really tall 5th, ideally id want a completely custom 5th that would have me turning 1600-1800 at 65, but thats expensive so i was curious about using the ex/Si 1-4 and the LX 5th? has anyone done that? or is there a right up on it or anything?

Re: Custom transmission ratios
you do not want your rpms to be that low in 5th gear. you will not have enough power to maintain speed, especially with such low displacement. you will just end up with worse gas mileage.

Re: Custom transmission ratios
yea sorry, I shoulda asked to. My info was on B series.
As you have a D series, I would just get an SI trans and call it a day.
