CTR / Mugen Style Cold Air Box - For Civics
Here's a CTR/Mugen style cold air box that we picked up.... a cheaper version of of an airbox that does the samething. Nothing really that special as most of you have probably seen it but since we had some laying around our warehouse, we threw one onto our H22 EG track car to take some pics of how it looks.
Next mod we're doing..... removing the passenger side foglight and using the dryer-type hose that comes with it and connecting the bottom of the box to the openning where the foglight is - we'll just take the bulb assembly out but leave the foglight frame there so it doesn't look out of place. Obviously with this in place, it'll draw up outside air and not suck in the hot air from inside the engine bay since it's fully enclosed, thus giving some more power.

these air boxes has been around for a while....i picked one up few years ago overseas....the one i got look just like that box, it came in set....box, piping, flex hose thingie, filter, and a mount thingie w/ mesh that mounts to the side of the bumper
(you do have to drill a hole in the pass side of the bumper...with the mount thingie it came with, it was a very clean install...it was mounted on the SIDE of the bumper so there is no risk of ramming in rain...its much better then just ram in stright in from the front where there is still a little risk of getting rain water in there) I seem it in some web sites, i think they just called it the "type r air box"......its a pretty cool product, the box has gaskets that makes the box semi-airtight...so it draws air from the outside well....but the air filter that it came with is 100% junk.....i just tossed it in the junkpile and got a K&N cone instead...)
i bought 3 of these back to the states a few years back......u basicly can make these fit in amost any car (as long as you have room for the box)....

Yah know it
As for the box itself, since I got a lot of PMs about it, we'll be selling these and I just need to update the website today and throw some new pics up and a price, but expect around the $70-$80 shipped area. Basically the cold air box comes with the box, an extension tube to run a cone filter from the stock rubber air intake hose (it comes silver.... we're using a different blue one that we already had), comes with mounting hardware (depending on how you mount it and what's in your engine bay, some bending of the brackets may be required but nothing a pair of pliers can't take care of), the dryer-type hose for the cold-air inductions, and extra hose clamps and such. Only thing not included is the air filter itself. If you really wanted to, you can connect a full aftermarket intake pipe up to it..... just stick the filter into the box (kind of like the Comptech Ice Box idea).

I'll be keeping an eye on this Recently gave up on my CAI since I removed my fender liners and have been looking for a decent compromise on an intake.

One of our guys already threw it up onto our website under the Specials section. I'm not trying to make this into a "sale" post but rather an informative one with this product, but just to save time on all of the PMs I'm getting about this, I'll just leave it at that.

At least you got the cool CF bottom piece of the airbox, but by looking at the top part of the airbox, it looks almost exactly the same.

I love that fact that you can use the stock airbox hole in an EG. I hated the half-assed way of using Integra stuff and then you'd have this big-assed hole in your engine bay looking lonely.
How big of a cone filter can you use? Say... GSR/ITR size or a smaller ricer intake kind of deal? Just wondering about total area.

The filter in the pic is a "regular sized" filter that comes on 99% of the intake kits out there, whether it's a cheap-o Ebay special or Pepboys special $19 filter, or a high dollar AEM intake filter from the CAI kit, they're all relatively the same size. Unless you get some long K&N filter made for something like a S2000 or something longer, most filters should fit in there w/out any problems, including the stock ITR/GSR air filter.
