Your steering rack may need adjustment, if you have too much play in the wheel.

Has it been this way since you had the car or is this something new?

I the rack had been replaced it could have been put back in out of center.

did it hit a curb? if so, it needs work... if not, alignment. or if you don't know, get an alignment. so probobly start with an alignment

alignment is going to be the big thing.

if its still crooked after the alignment, its possibly someone had it off the car before and put it back on crooked. (like mine is)

Most of the time it's alignment, as others have stated.

If the car was worked on by idiots it could be a improperly installed steering rack or steering wheel. Assuming it's all OEM the latter is easy enough to check, remove the airbag (obligatory warning: disconnect your battery, let the car sit for at least an hour, and be **** about static electricity when working on airbags) then check if the ticks on the post & wheel are lined up.

If you need to turn the wheel when accelerating and/or stopping, and it's had an alignment done, then you could have worn out bushings in the suspension. (symptom is if you find yourself having to turn the wheel in order to keep going in a straight line)

Outter tie rods can be adjusted to straighten the steering wheel, however they can only be adjusted so far. You might have to remove the sleeve that holds the rack and steering wheel splind shaft and straighten the steering wheel then put it back together. This would require you to either pull the steering wheel are partially remove the rack.
