cost to remove suspensions
i think this body shop where my car is totaled at is trying to rip me off...i got some tein basics on my honda civic and got it installed for 100 where i bought it at...i asked how much they would charge me to take it out and they calculated it on the computer to be 600 bucks...and damn thas almost how much i paid for the damn suspensions...they then said 500, then i argued some more and then they said they could do it for 400 if i pay in cash...and thas still a bull **** of a price... is this price right for a body shop to charge me or are they rippin me off?? and how much should it really be?? thanks

Dude I'd do it for 50$. Especially if you dont need to worry about the car anymore, you can get all that off in an hour.

There just trying to rip you off. If you dont take them for there 400 price theyll sell them for 400. Either way theyll get 400 and thats not right. I dont know the books but i highly doubt its more then 200 and thats at 100 an hour.
No way is it longer then a 2 hour job. I would go to Honda and get a quote on how much it would cost to remove suspension by the books, if its less then show them that price and say "you either charge me this or ill bring my lawyer" Could work.

Way less than $400. I'd do it for a hot meal.

What's so funny? Suspension is really simple to remove. I was honestly intimidated to do it on my EJ1, but it turned out to be a really easy process.

the thing wit getting it to my house is that i live in a dangerous area and my car will get stripped down even for pennies left in the car...well i argued again today and now they said $350 but my paycheck was only 250 soo im still 100 short...i didnt think i still would be spending this much money on my car after its allready totaled..grrrr..

Re: cost to remove suspensions (cilvia)
$200 at any honda dealership, and that's spring REPLACEMENT. Then about 50-100 for alignment if you go with that too.
Needless to say they're ripping you off. Have it towed to a friends house who doesn't live in such a dangerous place? Relative yada yada, then just do it yourself.

Re: cost to remove suspensions (SovXietday)
That is rediculous, $400 to remove suspension. Its fukin easy. Its only a hand full of bolts for each corner. I would try to get it to a friends house and tackle it yourself, if you are intimidated by it i am sure that alot of people would walk you through it on here, hell i would to save you the $350 that you had to talk them down to. to shady shops, good luck

Re: cost to remove suspensions (cilvia)
I think a legal consultation is in order. Call your insurer and/or a phone-book legal consultant about your situation (or an experienced friend). Be honest and direct, and have any pertinent documents at-hand.
Find out your rights as the owner regarding the storage of your vehicle. If your car is insured, your policy underwriters might be in "control" of this. If you've already received compensation from your or someone else's insurer (for your vehicle, not for any injuries), there's a chance you've waived any rights regarding your car and its parts.
If you haven't received a check yet...
My guess is that they took the vehicle to the closest shop near the crash site. Find out what other options you might have, including any info about towing cost coverage. The shop where it currently is might be able to charge you or your insurer storage fees if you decide to move it.
If you MUST keep your car there, then find out what rights you have as far as access to your car and its parts. If the car's already been written off to the shop, then they can charge you $20000 for your springs, if they wanted to. If it's still YOUR car, then look into signing a liability waiver where you (or someone cheap) can remove your parts yourself. Be sure to have a buddy around in case the shop pirates feel like whacking you upside your head for a free one.
Ask those ******** what, exactly, they're charging you for. Tell them about all of the other (online) estimates you've gotten, because $400 & $350 is way too much.
But first determine who "owns" the car. What you must do will depend on that answer.
Let us know!

Was this car leased?
Was your car paid for, or is there still a balance on any loan?
Was your car insured? What kind of coverage?
What compensation have you received/will you receive from your or another's insurer (for your vehicle only)?

Re: cost to remove suspensions (cilvia)
you dont need to leave it at that body shop. You have the right to move it to another body shop. if you are in Northern Cali i would do it for you for 150. You should contact the BBB for them trying to rip you off.

Don't even spend $250. I'm sure you can find a friend in your area (or someone here on HT) that would be more than willing to help you do it for cheaper than that. expletive, if I was in your area I'd do it for free just because I'm a nice guy.

Re: cost to remove suspensions (cilvia)
I'll call them tomorrow when I get up. Could you also please post up a number to another shop/Honda dealership. I'd like to find out what they charge, compared to the shop that is dinking you around.
