Currently the cat on my ej6 hatch is in (with?) the header like the picture shows, just wondering if its possible to convert it beneath the car like somewhere behind the downpipe? and is it beneficial in any way?

agreed, from my understanding the y8 headers will fit the y7 block but you’ll need the (headers,cat and full exhaust) might need to modify length too

y8 header, you'll have to custom the b pipe or cut to length and weld a flange to mount a converter back there.
