Completed my Mini Me
Hey guys. I finished my mini me last week and just thought I would share.
Well I took on this task on a nice sunny sunday morning thinking it was going to be fast and easy. Well let me tell you, the first time you attemp something like this leave your self a little more time. I had to get a ride to work on monday lol.
The first time pulling the head was a biotch since this was my first go at something like this. Took quite a while and was very frustrating since the first time I put it all back together I had problems so I had to pop the head again. The headgasket was leaking. So the next time I had 2 ppl help me set it properly and it runs mint now. After pulling this thing apart a couple times you start to get faster. Now I can do the whole thing in about 3 hours, so thats a plus .
Anyways I had a low mileage D16y7 on hand (very low mileage, the internals are mint ) and used that block with the D16z6 head. It went into a '92 Dx hatch. It runs great now. Even though I still have the y7 tranny on there, there was a noticable difference in top end power. From 5K to about 7K showed the biggest gains. I'm running a p28 ecu, so wiring was pretty easy( I mean I did have to play around with a bit but I managed to get it working), not to mention it's a '92.
Although sometimes after driving for awhile it seems vtec doesn't engage, it could be my ground (had trouble with it before) or my imagination . I will have to mess around with it some more. Also I'm getting code 19 and 2. Whats up with that? The car runs great, so they are having no affect on performance. But the codes don't make sense. Hmmm.
Anyways this is what I used:
-D16y7 block and tranny
-D16z6 head, timing belt
-D16y8 head gasket, intake manifold gasket
-new NGK spark wires, plugs, cap and rotor
-D15b7 distributer (modified to fit)
-Copper gasket spray
-Rachet, breaker bar and sockets (didn't need air tools for the pulley bolt)
-Case of beer
Here are some pics: (don't mind the not painted engine bay b/c I don't care. So why should you. )
D16y7 Head
D16y7 Head, Valve cover removed
Finished Mini me
Hatch Shot
Overall it was a good experience, I learned a lot.
Btw thanks to BauleyCivic's mini me faq thread, that helped out a lot. Thats why I love HT lots of useful ppl, even if sometimes they are hidden with all the idiots that visit here .
Also if anyone wants a bunch of low mileage D16y7 stuff give me a shout.
Any comments/feedback is welcome.

Re: Completed my Mini Me (Nihonjin)
Good work my friend I have tons of people asking me about how to do a Y7 block with a Z6 head...but for OBD2. Can you explain what exactly you did as far as the distributor was concerned? I'm still trying to figure out how people put the Z6 heads into OBD2 cars and still run OBD2 dizzys

Yeah you know what? You will probably be able to find all your answers here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053 . Very useful stuff.
I was very happy when it was all finished. Nothing better than testing out the work you have done. Pulls pretty good, I'm happy with the results.
Now I have 3rd gear VTEC YO! LOL just playing guys. It's more like 2nd gear VTEC with a Y7 tranny lol.
As for what y7 stuff I have, well I have the head in great shape, intake and exhaust manifold (which just left actually ) and soon the tranny. Also P06 ECU and PM6 pistons.
Thanks guys for all the kind comments. I love Honda-Tech. I'm actually home sick right now, so I decided it's a good time to post. :D

Thanks man. But my whole set up is OBD1. The only thing left out of a OBD2 car is the block. Thats why I used a D15b7 distributor. I just had to drill a hole in the housing to make it fit. Works flawlessly. So I don't have an answer for that sorry bro.
btw the y7 doesn't have an oil jet, so I didn't have to go about removing one.

BTW code 2 is 02 sensor...make sure you have a 4 wire 02 sensor, and code 19 is the VSS maybe you forgot to plug that back in

I do have a 4 wire o2 sensor, although the pins might be in the wrong place. Also isn't 19 to do with a auto tranny not the speed sensor?

Haha thanks. Well the "H" valve cover was from the D16Z6 head so I painted it and used that one. The "Honda" one was from the D16Y7, so I just decided to keep them with their proper heads, plus I like the "H" one better.

Heres the wheels in question,
Now I got these rims with the car way back from the person I bought it off of. I'm not sure what they are off, since I have not seen them around anywhere. Does anyone know what these wheels originally came on?
