Compatibility Between VTi SOHC LSD Unit and Cable D-Series Tranny?
Well I think I might just be dropping in a DOHC ZC swap into my 1990 hatch (yes I could have posted this in the EF forum, but I need some of the EG D-Series guys help here too with this) and I'm creating a closer-geared tranny by using the ZC 1-5 gears in an Si case with the Si better final drive assy.
Here's my questions pertaining to the guys who hang out in the EG forum and are SOHC-savvy:
Will the LSD unit from the hydro D-Series VT-i fit into the cable D-Series tranny?
Also I know eg6ajk found out the hard way that the SRR 4.929FD won't work with the LSD from the VTi, so here's my next question:
If the LSD from the VTi won't bolt into the cable D tranny, would the SRR 4.929FD work in a cable D tranny?
Thanks in advance.

Very good question. I think Mista Bone has a write up on swapable parts for d series tranny's on the d series message board. Worth a shot to check it out.

Let me clarify:
The SRR 4.929Fd will NOT work with the VTi LSD diff.
So I was asking if one or the other will work, because I know from eg6ajk's testimony that the SRR FD and the VTi diff won't bolt together.
I'd take one or the other.

I would think it would work. I have heard of guys using an Si(D16A6) final drive in a Z6(YS1) tranny with ZC 3rd gears....
If the Si final drive can work in the hydro tranny, I would assume that the hydro final drive would work in the cable!?
This is only if what I first said was true. Then again, it was hearsay, not first hand.

Re: Compatibility Between VTi SOHC LSD Unit and Cable D-Series Tranny? (Emerica)
Hey Emerica, the YS1 tranny is a cable B-Series tranny found in the 1990-1993 Integra.
The S20 is the hydro D Sereis tranny.

as far LSD from hydro to cable its a yes and a no. if its OEM honda VTi LSD then its definatly not going to work (due to fact that it requires ring gear and counter shaft to be used). if its a aftermarket LSD such as KAAZ or Quaife then yes it most likely will work (I say most likely as there were two bearing sizes 35 & 40mm)
again the SRR FD will not work on the cable becuase the need to use the counter shaft with it. since the sizes/designs of the cable and hydro trannies is much different again its no go.
so what can you do? for one you can get a ZC LSD unit or even better find:
92-3 SS0 tranny from a ZXi integra (cable) SOHC ZC which came with optional LSD as well as 4.43 FD (gearing was on par with d16a6, but ZC can be swapped). it uses a half-shaft setup. (where can you get one? I do get them once in a while)

also for those with KAAZ or Quaife (35=-40mm deal):
