Default Cold air intake hindering performance?

I have a AEM Cai on my b16. I was just wondering since the pipe was designed for a sohc vtec would it be holding back my motor? would i be better off switching to a short ram intake? just thought. Feed back would be awesome. Thanks in advance

whats the diameter of the piping? There should be no difference in the intake sizing.

Shouldn't be. I'd think it would be the same.

Get a short ram or a 3" cold air. I just removed my cold air off my b16 and put on a short ram. The cold air was from my d16 and the piping was smaller then my b16 throttle body.

Many intake diameters are different from model to model. A basic intake made for a D-Series could be 2.25" or 2.5". Then, ones made for a B-Series, would be 2.75" or 3", depending on model.

its still better than the stock one but it depends on the diameter of the pipe and the type of filter :

the diameter i believe is 2.25in. The filter is the one that comes with the AEM. Would i be better of getting a Intake off ebay made for a ITR or something? if so they really dont post pipe diameters when they sell intakes on ebay unless it is a 3inch monstah

if i was you i would go with a short ram like j's racing or the passwordjdm.com carbon fiber nice big and carbon fiber and plastic dont retain as much heat and become heat soaked like metal.

what kind of car is this going into? if you have an EG chassis and want to stick with AEM, get a the for the del sol dohc vtec. it'll fit perfectly and does have bigger piping than the sohc version. however, the aem SRI has same size piping. if you want to mod your engine bay just a bit, you can use a IT-R CAI, which has the biggest piping of any AEM CAI.
