are coilovers worth it?

are coilovers worth it?
I was wondering if coilover springs are worth buying or are they only worth buying if you have higher horsepower. I know they are supposed to lower the ride height and help with handeling but I was just wondering if they are worth it if you dont have a high horsepower honda.

just cause you dont have a high horse power honda doesnt mean anything.
coilovers are good but just plain ol springs can be just as good.
you can get slip ons for around the same price as springs, but if you want full coilover i wouldnt spend less then 750.
ground conrtol and koni is great and arent the expensive.
so in my opinon YES they are worth it,
oh and if you have subs that are heavy you should look into coilovers

thanks I was just wondering because people have been telling me that its not worth the buy if you dont have alot of horsepower and I figured id get another opinion on that because there are alot of people on here that know alot about this stuff I thought I knew alot but I know only a fraction of what you guys know. Ya I have 2 infinity 10's but they arent very heavy so I dont think that should effect anything.

ah, not heavy but i bet they sound good.
it always nice to be able to adjust your ride height, its cool because you like it slammed now, but you might not like it in a year, and then you gotta go buy new crap to do it,
i never liked being locked in with the ride height,

Ya i was thinking about lowering springs and dampers because of the money because I do not want to buy cheap ebay coilovers even though they look alright I dont want to put a suspension peices underneath that arent going to last unless anyone has any experiences with any good off brand kinds.

The Ebay coilovers are so rough they will beat your teeth out! The best thing to do is look in the Marketplace on here or get the Koni Ground Control setup like others are saying. Springs are ok but once you get coilover's you wont want to go back!

hmm id say skunk2 but they are still over. around 600+
if thats they case its best to safe up. it really sucks to buy something for x price and then see something else for a little more thats way better.

Re: are coilovers worth it?
Coming from the Subaru world, coilovers, to me, mean a complete stiff spring, adjustable shock absorber with height adjustable spring perch all sold in one complete assembly. In which case it's a great buy albeit an expensive one. I'm all about doing it right the first time. So if you want my advice, save up for awhile, get a set of coilovers and shortly after installing them have the car corner balanced, do some driving and adjust the shocks to a lower setting that you feel good about. The reason I suggest a lower setting initially is because adjustable shocks weren't initially designed to be messed around with to such an extent but to be adjusted as the shock wears out so as to maintain a ride feel that you like...Then when they finally wear out you have them rebuilt. Sway bars also complement coilovers quite well.

On a regular driven everyday car get springs. Coilovers are a waste of time unless you use your car for track purposes. Why do you need to raise and lower a regular commuter?

Re: are coilovers worth it?
I just bought Ground Control coilovers for my 00 ex coupe DD. The ride is definitely stiffer, but the handler is much improved. I have the car lowered right now, fenders sitting bout on top of the tires, and its wearing the crap out my tires from the neg camber, so im going to adjust. But the adjustable feature is the best part. I would recommend getting ground controls. You never know what you might do later. O and i picked up for the ground controls for 300.00

thanks that sounds like the direction I might go its either that or save up because I dont want to buy something thats terrible just because its cheap and what im looking for you know. But I do like the feature of being able to change ride height so I can put it where I want .

thats toe, just take it and get an alignment.
thats the only reason i reccomend coilovers, you might like it slammed now but in 1 year you might not.
thats why springs suck, you cant adjust, and coilovers are not a waste just casue your daily driving it.
i love my skunk2s and my car is a dd
