Default code 3 map sensor.

ok guys, today my cel came on for map sensor. its idling horribly and jumping.

if i turn the car off and clear the code and turn it back on the idle is around 500 and sounds horrible.

I need to know if there is any way to test the map sensor. These things are expensive, in fact a new map sensor would cost me more than i paid for my entire motor!!

also, could the o ring (gasket) be causing this problem? its flattened out pretty bad and has little notch taken out of it.

any other suggestions would be awesome as well.

fastest way to test you map sensor is take it off your car.. connect it to a friends car with a vacuum line (leave theirs on the throttle body) and unplug their map and plug in yours.. see how their car runs..

i dont htink that will be a possibilty. i might be able to borrow one. but doubtful.

btw, whats the diff between a code 3 map sensor and code 5 map sensor?

same thing? or does one mean a diff problem with the sensor?

A map sensor can be bought at a junkyard for $10-20 if you look.
Your problem may not be the map sensor. It maybe your wiring or you may simply have the tps and map plugs mixed up.

you need the code...there is a sticky at the top of the forum with a how to on checking codes and what they are. and stop doing 90 mph, no need to go that fast

i paid 12 bucks for the map sensor btw. works like a charm now...well the map sensor does...still got a weird idle that i have yet to find..

i think it has something to do with this sticky *** STR throttle body

clean the map sensor out with starting fluid or some high octane gas. its probably carbon build up. but that should do the trick. if it needs to be replaced $25 at the junk yard. or it could be ur o2 sensor.
