Default code 17 + high idle ???

ok well basically i put a jdm b16a into a 94 dx civic. everything seems to work fine though the car is throwing a code 17(vss). when i start the car it will idle at like 1200-1300 rpms for about 3-4 seconds then throw the cel and the idle jumps to about 1600rpms and stays there. once warm and taken around the block it idles at 1900rpms. im convinced its not the idle screw because the idle is at a normal warm up rpm as soon as i start it, then as soon as the cel comes on the rpms jump up higher. so it must be that code its throwing. my speedo works fine and the car is bone stock as far as wiring and ignition goes.

i have a friend throwing a vss code and he's in limp mode with his obd-0 ef b16 swap

my car runs good and my vtec works. so im wondering do obd1 cars not go into limp mode from a code 17?

im confused....have any of you jdm b16 swapped eg's encountered this?

should i just try a new speed sensor? i mean thats the first thing on my list if that doesnt work then idk im stumped.

TIA

any time the cel comes on the car will go in to limp mode. have you check all your vacumm line and have you tried changing you speed sensor. just use the speed sensor from the motor you replace.

a speed sensor shouldn't cause a high idle. look for any vacuum leaks or broken hoses.

definitely.... Could be a vacuum leak, FITV if you have that, or your IACV.

Change the speed sensor with a known working one.

before you do this clean the speed sensor.

i had a problem with a code 17 on my car and cleaning it fixed it for the remainder of the time i owned the car.

just take it out of the car, then take off all bolts, it will come apart. Now clean that gunk out and regrease it. Put it back together and see if that helps your CEL.

as far as the idle problem.

-like i stated earlier my car will hit vtec with the cel ON (im guessing that means its not in limp mode)

-car should idle fine if i can just get this goddam code to go away

-i havent tried changing the speed sensor yet

-the idle screw was backed out so i screwed it all the way in...my idle dropped about 500 rpms when it got warm, but its still at 1400rpms

-i did change the tps sensor before i put the motor in.....could that be the culprit?

-i am not using a evap purge solenoid...and the hose from the charcoal can to where the evap purge should be is plugged

unplugged the speed sensor today.....took a look at it.....the plug on the sensor is slightly cracked.....im guessing its the actual sensor itself

any other ideas are greatly appreciated

thanks for the replies!

i bet your tps isnt calibrated right.

get a mulimeter and set the voltage to around .45 closed throttle. 4.55 wide open throttle.

if .45 closed throttle doesnt work, try .32 or something around .35 (i had to on mine)

and just clean that vss, its simple
