Clutch noise when in neutral and the pedal is not pressed down
sort of a "gghhhh" kind of noise. It seems to only do it when the engine isn't yet up to operating temp.
Makes the noise when the foot is off the pedal as indicated in the video.
The video was taken when the car was in neutral and not moving; shortly after starting it after it had sat for 48+ hours.

Re: Clutch noise when clutch NOT engaged
The noise happens when the pedal is up not down, right?
If so, a bad transmission main bearing, typically for the input shaft, is the likely cause.
(The clutch is engaged with the pedal up)

Mine has that noise when I let off of the pedal. Almost sounds like the clutch wants to grab or something. I planned on replacing the whole clutch set up this weekend. Clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing. If I get it done, I'll let you know if it fixed the problem.

The video was taken (ie, the symptom I speak of) happens when the car is in neutral and not moving. Yes, when the clutch is engaged by your definition (but it's not in gear, so is it accurate to say the clutch is engaged?). If I could edit the title of my post I would change it to: Clutch noise when in neutral and the pedal is not pressed down.

Thanks! That sound expensive. How long can I drive it like this without .. I dunno.. something bad happening? What is my recourse?

Transmission main bearings can be replaced. It's the input shaft bearing that usually fails. The cost is minimal if you can and are willing to do the work yourself. Check the FAQs sticky.

Right. Well, I won't be doing that anytime soon, but thanks for the link! What's the prognosis if I keep driving the car without tending to it?

Hmm? I don't understand what you said. edit: I think you mean you think the sound maybe is caused by the release bearing in my gear?
Just another added piece of info: when the engine is warm and in neutral and clutch engaged, it sounds like a fan is on and the sound isn't as loud/noticeable as when the engine is cold. Thanks again for all the help.
