Re: clutch install question (JonSilva)
do you mean the clutch was making noise when you pushed the clutch pedal down to the floor in order to put the car into gear? is it making a clicking noise, or what kind of noise is it? if it is one of these symptomes you may have forgot, or just not lubed up the throw out bearing well enough. Or you may need to put more lubricant where the slave cylinder connects to the fork.

well if it is grinding, i would guess you have a bad synchro. what gears does the tranny grind in, all of them, or just some of the gears? the only way to fix a bad synchro is to take the tranny back off and replace the synchro.

Re: clutch install question (JonSilva)
well it is very normal for a tranny to grind while going into reverse. when putting the car into reverse try this: push in the clutch and hold it down, put the tranny into 2nd gear, while still holding the clutch down quickly put the car into reverse. this way the tranny should not grind .
as for 1st gear, you could try to do the same thing as you do for reverse. i think that once everything is broke in (probably about 500mi) the car will be easier to put into first gear.
did you make sure that you topped of the tranny with MTF? this will also help your shifts be smoother.
good luck
