some turkey didn't torque the clutch/flywheel bolts in and one fell lout while driving. Sounded like a marble in my engine.

see the emply bolt hole, and mangled bolt. Would have been an easy way to check them too. One other bolt was also under torqued, the rest were tight.


it did a number on my starter housing


a few scrapes on the pressure plate


and some divits in the tranny casing


I got off pretty easy i think. Its obvious now that this tranny didn't come with this engine originally. The tranny grime didn't match the engine grime and it had "gsr lsd" written in an impossible location.

Probably was and automattic engine and some importer joe boy swapped the tranny on. Even the header had "gsr" written on it out of sight. Do they take the whole packages apart?

Man that could be any tranny.


I bought a used GSR transmission from a junkyard - and gave them my busted B16 tranny for core charge. I ended up with a GSR case (and the 2 parts of the case do not match at all) no VIN and B16 gearing. My conclusion is that they used my original internals in an older 94, 95ish GSR case (they had cheap sticker VINs which fall off easily)

well, i at least made sure it had the lsd in there. I guess it can pay to disassemble and check over any engine you get. Especially the easy stuff like the clutch assembly and valve train

the bolts are actually a full 1/4 inch shorter than the ones from either my b18a clutch or b20 TQ converter. Not sure which, i just pulled them out of my spare bolts box.

These longer bolts don't even reach through to the back side of the flywheel! I think i'll be bloody well using the longer ones with some locktight.
