Default cluster swap into a cx?

I just recently bought a '97 CX, and i'd like to have a tach without screwing a huge unit onto my dash. Was wondering what Civic's come with tachs in they're gauge clusters, and what years will fit into my cx?
How easy of a swap is this to do?
How exactly would I hook up a tach? Is the wiring all there, and is it just a plug and play thing?

Thanks guys! Any info is appreciated!

You can buy a jdm cluster. I used a jdm SiR Ek cluster on my 96 ek9 and it was plug n play. Even if you old cluster doesnt have a tach, if you put one that does have it, it would automatically work!

Can anyone else verify this?

So even if I don't have a tach now... all I do is plug in a cluster WITH a tach and it'll work?

Do I need a cluster from a 96-98 or will 99-01 work?

Does anyone have a link to a step by step of how to remove a cluster?

Thanks!

Yes, the tach will work. Your car is prewired for one. The cluster itself doesn't have the tach, so obviously it won't work.

Yes, any non-USDM 96-00 Civic cluster will work in our USDM cars.

Any 96-00 cluster will be plug and play. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the top two screws, and remove the dash bezel by pulling on it. Then you'll see two more screws on top and two more on the side of the cluster (one on each side). Remove those and pull out the cluster. Unclip the plugs, and install in reverse.

So, a CTR cluster would work in my car.. However, the only problem would be fitment, correct?

Since when did how many posts represent your intelligence of cars? I have an EG, I've only worked on EGs therefore my knowledge of EKs is limited to small differences like this.

You're 26 year olds and you don't know that everywhere else in the world uses the metric system and we still use the imperial system? Think before you speak.

i think he may be refering to the amount of replies telling him the same thing, not how many posts he has total.

other than that, yes, it will work. any cluster of the same generation civic is plug and play. period.

well im not 26
n u took the time to look that up in my pro
aww im flattered!

but here in america its more practical 4 ur cluster to tell u how fast ur goin in mph

I would stick to usdm
im pretty sure jdm clusters are kmph

okay can u read
how does this statement give u the impression i didnt know everyone else uses the metric system
i just think a normal american like myself would like to know their speed in mph
well i dont know **** about egs but im pretty sure 92-95 egs clusters are all interchangable

its this thing in america we like to call
COMMON SENSE!

y would honda make 96-00 clusters differents shapes just because they have tachs

try using COMMON SENSE ITS FREE
GET UR HEAD OUT UR ***!

It's not hard to memorize the how fast your going in MPH while using a KMPH cluster. I run a VTi cluster and this is something that I do.

An EK9 cluster will be plug and play, and fits perfect
