Cleaning surface around water pump
I'm in the midst of replacing my water pump/timing belt. How well do I need to clean the surface where the rubber gasket seats for the water pump? Helms doesn't give mention to cleaning it off like it would for an intake manifold gasket. Is this because when you remove the water pump, the entire gasket comes off too unlike an intake manifold? TIA.

Re: Cleaning surface around water pump (******)
Well I think I've got the answer of cleaning it with a razor of some sort, and applying no RTV sealant since it has the o-ring. Anyone want to second this?

i dont think it would hurt to have a small bead of rtv around it. just make sure the surfaces are clean. that is the main thing.

187,000 miles - third water pump/tensioner/timing belt - have not used and sealant or rtv or hondabond - no problems... just have to make sure the the mating surfaces are VERY clean...
