I have a z6 sitting at my house thats about to go into my 94 ex, after i bent a rod from almost hydro locking my old engine. My question is that its dirty as &^%* and i wanna clean it bbefore I put it in my car. I used to detail cars and i have wheel acid sitting around. I'm just not sure if it's safe to spray the block with it be cause it alunium? When i do clean it should i just stick rags in the IM and the four ports for the header?

Check Advance auto. they have an actual Advance Auto Engine cleaner. It actually works pretty well

I'v seen that before, but this stuff you spray it on and wash it off and not one speck of dirt would be left its that strong. I was just wondering if its safe because I would rather not use something that work "pretty good".

Id say try the wheel acid on an inconspicuous spot, maybe on the back. But i cant see it damaging it.

You do realize that most of the wheels you'd be cleaning at your work are also made of Aluminum, right? Steel wheels usually have hubcaps, so you don't use acid on them.

Use your wheel acid and then, when that fails, get some engine degreaser from Advance and follow the instructions on the bottle. A power washer would help.

I did it to my old motor before i sold it. And i used a small brush with it. Probably the best thing advance sells lol.

However, the aluminum wheels almost always have a clearcoat on the metal finish...so when you spray the acid on them, it doesn't effect the metal since it is not touching it at all.

If you spray on a wheel that has curb rash you'll notice it start to break down the bare metal...wash it off immediately to keep it from getting worse. To spray onto an aluminum block I would do small areas at a time and constantly rinse off as you go.
