civic vs. tc
in a couple of weeks i am going to go up against a tc.
i currently have a 93 civic ex coupe, with a d16z6, intake, dc headers, 2.5 piping and exhaust. i am about to get some falcon azenis also. i looked around youtube to see if i can find a video of a pretty much stock civic vs a stock tc.
the tc has a injen cold air and an injen axle back exhaust.
we are going to run at irwindale, 1/8 of a mile,
do i have a chance at winning?
is there anything i can do for quick hp?
how quick is a tc compared to a honda?

Re: civic vs. tc (EJcharlie)
To tell you the truth the tc may be faster but since its the 1/8th mile you have a chance.
This reminds me of a buddy i have, really, really good driver. Back in the day he had a 93 sol, d16z6, i would say he had one of the fastest stockish cars in the 1/8th mainly because he knew how to drive it. He would race cars with double the HP and get to the end right as they were about to pass him.
He had a dc 4-1 header, cold air intake, lightened flywheel, gutted cat, catback exhaust and ngk wires. Obviously the only reason he did so well was because he was able to get out of the hole so quickly and shift really good.
If I were in your shoes, I would get some good slicks and do whatever you can for weight reduction. Take out your spare, your jack all that ****. Take out the passenger seat to. Change your oil before you race if you haven't in a while. Maybe even run open header. Put max PSI in your back tires.
Hopefully the tc guy isnt as good as a driver as you coupled with the fact that hes a little heavier. I think it could be a close race.
edit: to the 2nd poster. My friends, dads, sisters, boyfriend raced a tc in his lambo and won by 20lengths... were talking about a d16, not a b16, noticeable differance here.

Re: (v!taminb16)
the irwindale track is the closest track to were i live, and the track is only 1/8.
yeah well a b16 is a b16, i would be more confident if i had that. but what about a soch vtec?

azenis are real good tires just lower the psi down some and warm them up real good you have a good chance against that tc in the 1/8 but in the 1/4 it would be a different story

Re: civic vs. tc (EJcharlie)
WTF some of this advice is wrong
ok first of all tc are quick cars 160hp with 160tq thats gonna smoke a stocky civic but since there is some hope he might be a bad driver or he might have an auto(u have won)
u can't do much but here's what to do
get a higher octane gas, advance timing slightly, yeah put more air in the back tires prob 3-5 psi above recommended, and don't just lower psi on front tires the tire pressure bcuz ur stock civic has no torque and lowering ur tires may cause too much traction causing u to bog in low rpm and loose important time, u have to balance ur traction with rpm range,
look u want ur car to reach rpm's faster so u need to break the tires loose at launch, and don't let go of the throttle
ur tires are probaly soft and have soft treads which is more than enough traction, more traction can just cause ur tires to grip the track and won't loose traction which is what u need, I'd do practice runs which diff tire psi

Re: civic vs. tc (v8killaz)
I think we need to define how quick a tc really is first. Some are saying it is, and others are saying its not. I simply dont know how to define it. But hopefully this will help. My friend has an 05 tc. Hes got the normal bolt ons, intake, exhaust, suspension, ect ect. But my Del Sol spanks his car. I do have the ls swap with bolt ons as well. tc's are not horrible cars, but i definitely think that theyre overrated.

I own a tC (trying to sell it), as well as a del sol with a d16z6. The tC is a good bit faster to 45mph, but the del sol seems to keep up above that. The tC is also geared very low in first and second, so low that he may have some wheelspin off the line.
To win, I would hope the tC has the factory stock tires on it and a huge stereo in the trunk. The bolt-ons he has will only gain about 5whp over stock, so don't worry too much about that. As others said, I would work on reducing as much weight as possible in your car.

Re: civic vs. tc (EJcharlie)
Practice on your reaction time in drag racing reaction is everything the cars are both similar in preformance the tc will catch u in the long run but in the 1/8 of mile if u get the hole shot like vitamin said he will be on y our *** and fetchin u down as u cross the finish

Re: civic vs. tc (zdizzle)
thanks guys,
well i get there early and practice before the tc gets there.
so far ill have:
nothing but the driver seat.
5 psi more in back tires
i already have a slight advanced timing
key point"good take off"

Keep us posted on the results!
Some data from http://www.albeedigital.com/su....html to think about
1993 Honda Civic Coupe EX 0-60 8.4sec, 16.5sec 1/4 mi (stock)
and a writeup on the tC from http://www.sportcompactcarweb.....html
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by sportcompactcar »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
Scion rates the tC's power output at 160 hp and 163 lb-ft of torque at 5700 rpm and 4000 rpm, respectively. Our test mule was a preproduction model that was modified with a polished AEM cold-air intake and a TRD exhaust, two enhancements that will be available directly from your Scion dealer, so we were unable to get absolute numbers for a bone-stock example. On our house Dynojet, our tC laid down 141-peak hp and 152 lb-ft of torque at the wheels, so we expect the modifications added around 10 hp more than the factory bottom line.
With our test monkey behind the wheel, the tC managed to eke out a 15.7-second quarter mile at 88.2 mph at the track, just as we originally predicted. Remember, the car also weighs close to 3,000 pounds. Thanks to a relatively generous torque curve, 0-to-30 mph was achieved in just under 3 seconds. At higher velocities the 2AZ-FE begins to pant a little, taking more than twice as long to go from 60 to 100 as it does to go from 0 to 60, which it manages in 7.8 seconds.
