Default civic side molding

hey, does anyone know how the black side molding is held on on an eg? I want it to be painted body color, but I hear that the paint will crack as the rubber expands/contracts as the weather changes. (I live in Buffalo). So I figure I should just have it removed. When I did this on my 5th gen accord, there were tabs in addition to glue, so there were holes along the body that would need to be filled. Are there holes on an eg, or just glue? Or, is there anything to do to prep the molding so the paint won't crack?

Ive got my side mouldings painted on an EK hatch...it hasnt cracked yet...Just make sure the people who paint it know what theyre doing (sand it with like 1200 grit or finer paper to prep it) and then add a flex additive to the paint..shouldnt have any problems. My mouldings were held on with little clips.

if you dont want to keep it this will work. but if you want to take it off and paint it you might want to be a little more gentle. just take a large flat head screwdriver and put it in between the car and the molding. you must do this at the edge by the door opening though cause if you just do it anywhere it could scratch or dent your car. also it is only held in by tabs. there is no glue. i took mine off to shave them and it was pretty easy. just becareful not to hurt the paint.

wait, so the tabs are stuck on with glue, or there are holes in the door/fender/quarterpanel for the tabs? I may just have them painted if that can be done without them cracking later on

i had new door skins put on my hatch and they came with the holes for the clips, but i just got some really good dubble sidded tape and put the moldings back on and got it painted. and it looks really good no cracks, just wish i would have put the moldings on during the day so they would have lined up better.

THere are clips that hold the molding on, wiht the addition of some screws at each end. ANd there are holes on the acutal body panels that hold the clips in, which then holds the molding to them.

no, I'm gonna have a shop do it. Now I can't decide on color. The car is white right now, but I want to paint it black. However, I am torn between that and championship white, as I would now have to paint the door jams etc. if I went white
