Civic shifter moves forward at WOT, clunk noise
96 civic lx
d16y7 engine, y8 tranny, comp 2 clutch, f1 11lb fly wheel, Energy bushings, innovative motor mounts are the basics to this issue.
Basically I have a rattle noise when I am stopped, goes away if I push in clutch (assume this is a throw out bearing?)
THE REAL ISSUE, casually driving home last friday I was taking off at a stop sign, shifted 2nd and clunk the shifter slides forward an inch or 2. Shift 3rd and it is minimal but does the same. Shift 4th and it is noticeable and 5th not as much. (shifts around 3-3500rpms)
Checked the linkages, all pins bolts etc.. look good, I moved the exhaust to test it out and still does it without the exhaust next to the linkage. I check the motor mounts and they looked good. After researching this unusual problem I am going to check for all the rear t bracket bolts and motor mount bolts once again because it feels like the motor torques when I shift which causes the issue.

Is there anyone who might have any ideas? I would assume the tranny to be good as it stays in gear without any issues. When I downshift the clunking is minimal, on take off it is terrible. Thanks in advance for ANY ideas,tips,etc..

Re: Civic shifter moves forward at WOT, clunk noise
Is there any play in the rear motor mount or is it busted? Sound like the rear motor mount is broken or loose with the amount of travel from the shifter. When the motor is under acceleration the motor would flex forward and back and the rear mount would be what keeps that from happening.

Does the angle of the shifter change, or only the position? If it's only the position, I'd guess motor mount....but if it's the angle, you may have lost a bolt on your shift linkage.

update, went out 5 minutes after i posted and the rear mount t bracket had no threads in it or they were gauged enough to not allow a bolt to tighten. new bracket/bolt and we are good. shifter position was the same when i had the issue by the way. thanks guys just updating.
