i have a 98 civic ex and was trying to replace my rear speakers. i been browsing through the internet and learned that i have to remove my rear interior in order to do this. all the information i came upon was very confusing. i was wondering if there was an easier way to do this, and if so can someone please send me some instructions? thanks a lot

Just start taking off your rear seats, and then the trim pieces to get to the rear speakers. Experiment. The worst thing you could do is not access your speakers and then have to put things back. It's a learning process, you have to start somewhere; so just jump in!

have you personally gone out to your car to look at what you have to remove to get to them? its quite simple man. ive replaced dozens of speakers for my cars and friends cars, hell ive even rewired a bunch of systems. sometimes just looking at it and goin for it is easyier then reading about it.

To the OP, you don't even have to remove the rear seats, just fold them down. After that, like pdiggitydog said, take the cover off. You kind of have to bend it because of the side moldings, so try not to crack it. Other than that, you just need to disconnect the third brake light connector. It's really easy, just give it a shot. getting the back deck off sucks. especially in coupes, in sedans you dont really have to remove anything to get the thing off but in coupes the side moldings are hard plastic.. ive managed to get them off in both types without removing any side moldings/cushins

pop the seat key lock trim out from the bottom and pinch and push the panel pops from inside the trunk

it depends on if you have a coupe or sedan, a hatch is the simplest. of all three designs, you just remove the speaker cover via the 4 screws on top. if its a coupe then you pretty much have to take out everything except the headliner behind the front seats, that is if you want to do it the right way and not take a chance at breaking interior pieces. if you just bind the back deck you will have a crease in it and you might even crack it. its not the smartest way at all to do it you will just mess something up. i am not familliar with the sedans so i am not sure on how to do it but you might have to take out the rear seat and take off the side panels. hopefully this was helpful. and if you do have a coupe i would recomend taking it to someone like circuit city or best buy because it is worth the 35 bucks for them to rip out your entire back half of the car and you know it is all wired right. plus you can watch them to make sure they dont mess anything up.

you can pry the grille's off if you're very careful. they WILL break. use a small screwdriver and pry a little. or go to circuit city where they'll do it for $35 it's a good deal for such a pain in the ***

F! taken the back of your car apart! try this...

look in your trunk. under each speaker you will see 4 white clips. the screws that hold your speakers in place screw into these clips. use a pair of cutters and cut away all 4 pieces of plastic. when all of the white clips have been cut, push your speaker up and remove it through the speaker hole.

---or---

use a razor and go along the speaker grill on your rear deck. this will cut away the tabs holding the speaker grill in place. when you are finished installing your new speakers, use strip caulk to secure the grills back down again.
