Default Civic problems part 2: Tach all over the place.

Okay...so after getting my axle installed in an earlier thread, the tach started bouncing around a bit. I got a new axle installed today due to the previous one being too short and now the tachs worse somehow. It reads 0 when the car is on and lags behind the actual engine speed (engine will be at 1500, tach will read 1k) and continues to bounce around. It seems electrical but i dont know what exactly, as in what sensor reads engine speed, or what else it could be.

You have a bad wire connection somewhere.

The tach gets its signal on the blue wire from the igniter/ICM in the distributor. Open the distributor and check whether the blue wire connection is loose or corroded. In some case, the igniter/ICM must be replaced. It's also possible that the dash tach itself is bad.
