Civic noob engine question
hey guys, dont no much about civic motors but im looking to find a motor and start building it up while slowly putting money into the motor throughout high school, im only 15 right now and just finished my prelude engine swap so im looking for a new project and i want a turbo so i figured i go with a b16? just wondering wat a good platform is to start with that has alot of aftermarket support and will swap into a civic, I would buy a civic when motors done and throw it in there, any suggestions would be great trying to expand my knowledge in the honda world (sorry about the grammer)

Seriously get familiar with driving before you start moding the **** out of your car. Statistics on young new drivers are not on your side when it comes to avoiding wrecks and the like.
Mod the driver first all else comes later

Definitely. Learn the roads and learn your car and driving habits before you start making it faster. However, I would get a JDM GS-R (b18c) and boost that. But, what do I know? I'm an NA guy.

Don't count on that... I'm 19, invested about $1100 into my car, and right now I have a 2200lb paperweight in my garage...
However, d-series is the way to go if you're on a budget. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you start. I'd spend a good amount of time researching and then researching some more.
Oh - and I also think you need to get used to driving first. It would suck if you spent a lot of money on your car and totaled it a month later.

true, with new driver, you don't need alot of power, you need to know your limits.
go with the d-16 turbo with 180hp. that will be
a nice street car.
maybe later you can built a track car.

I'd LOVE to do something big like that, but I have one thing holding me back: MONEY. I'm doing all of my crap on a 19 year old's budget, and even though I've easily been able to afford everything so far, I should really be saving it for other things. If you want a fully built turbocharged d-series, I hope you have a few grand you're willing to kiss goodbye. If you want to turbo a b-series, expect to spend even more.

I'd skip the engine and mod the HELL out of your supension and brake system. You'll like the result way better i think and it will make you a better driver since you won't have the engine power to break the tires loose in a corner and realy get into trouble. I have video to prove that crappy suspension will get you in trouble, and I only had a VX motor, just imagine what it would be like with something putting out 200+whp and you lack of experiance (just an assumption because of your age).

Re: Civic noob engine question (WGFletch4WS)
Uhhhh get a H22 it's got lots of power and then throw a super charger on it, 10 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag I wouldn't go and start building a engine from the ground up unless you have someone that can help you little steps on the way. I started building a LS/VTEC around in 2002 I've bought lots of parts for it but that thing still isn't done. I was going to put it in my 2000 Civic Sedan Auto Tranny then wised up decided the car is worth alot as it is just going to sell the civic and put it in my CRX I got 2 CRX's cost me $300 for both of them 91. great body and very light. Just saying DON'T GO IN OVER YOUR HEAD. Engine swaps are one thing but building and engine from the ground up... Pistons(what Compression), Rods(what brand), Get the Crank and Block looked at by a machine shop to see if there is need for bore and hone, don't forget do you want the engine balanced blue print, will there be a port and polish job, do you have all the bolts to put the thing together what brand gasket & seal kit will you get do you need to change the syncros in the transmission are the gears ok in the transmission will you need motor mounts will the A/C work don't car who says what make the A/C work... or if it's just a drag car for weekends never mind. Will you need to chip the ECU or get a APEX VAFC if this is your daily driver will it get you to work and back home without you calling every other week needing the day off to fix the thing. Getting new belts... God I could go on all day long. if you want a modded car just get a H22, K20 or a GSR engine tranny. doing motor build could set you up for a long head eche... Good luck with whatever you decide read alot of post here don't worry about people telling you to use the search button noob. Make sure you have a hayness manual for engine and Car read though the trouble shooting section do regular maintence on your car and you will get a feel for how well you might do tearing down a whole motor and putting it back together without missing any parts and lubing everything. uhhh I'm going to get a twisty cone..
