civic with no power steering
Hey, I was just wondering how hard my car would be to drive without power steering. It is a 92 civic lx and it came with power steering, but it really ugly right up in the front of the engine. Do you think it would be harder to drive a h22 eg hatch with rack and pinion, cuz my brother has one, and its really not that hard to drive. Thanks for the help, David

my cx doesnt have it and never will. love the feeling of rack and pinion. only problem is when im parallel parking (drive in the city alot). as long as you got some pipes, everything will be fine. as soon as the car is moving it is not even noticible

My VX was easy to drive until I lowered it, put a small diameter steering wheel, and some 15 inch rims with wider tires. Even so, it's not that much trouble for daily driving. When I park it, I get it right the first time.

I have a '98 EX coupe with power steering. I wouldn't have it any other way.
I also have a '97 CX hatch without power steering. It's also lowered (like the EX) and at low speeds it's almost impossible to drive. It actually makes me angry sometimes since it takes so much just to get the damn wheel to turn.
Of course you won't feel it as much once you get up to speed, but backing out of the driveway, parking, taking a slow turn, any sort of slow movement is much more difficult than it needs to be.
It makes the car feel clunky at slow speeds imo. It takes my mind off of other things I should be paying attention to and I don't like that.
(And before anyone mentions it, power steering racks are tighter than non-power steering racks. Granted many people just loop the p/s if they're getting rid of it.)

Power steering FTW.
Not having it isn't so bad, but like they said above when your at slow speeds or parked its not so fun.

Plenty of race cars have power steering.
I'm sure you get a lot of time at the track between chores, high school and your after school job. I'm sure that car is a strictly built for the track monster and is never taken out on the road. Even in the rare event it's on the road, it's probably primarily on the track, so of course it'd make sense since this car lives on the track and not the street (like the majority of Civics on this site).
