Civic LX 97-Drove through water, now jolting when accelerating
Last Sunday I drove my 1997 Civic LX through a puddle I didn't realize was as deep as it actually was. The check engine light came on immediately, but the car's performance was not at all effected. It rained even more the next day, causing flooding around the town I live in, and unfortunately I had to get out in it again, where I drove through even more water. Engine light was still on. It was fine for three days, no problem, even though the engine light was on. Then on Thursday night, it started to jolt when accelerating. It didn't really seem safe to drive. While jolting, the RPMs were fluctuating pretty rapidly, and the speedometer was all over the place, up and down very fast, despite a constant speed. The speedometer just stayed at zero if it wasn't freaking out. I took it out yesterday to see if maybe it had dried out, but now it sounds even worse and the jolting is pretty bad. It feels and sounds like the car is choking to death, and feels pretty unsafe to drive on the roads. I've heard from friends it could be spark plugs or maybe fuel filter, possibly transmission. Does anybody know??? Any knowledge is a huge help, and is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
