Default Civic HB w/ certified B18 GSR in Socal

I usually just read & not post on Honda-tech but just wanted to share my joy w/ the honda-tech world. After months of looking for a honda civic HB, last month I finally got my hands on a 92 civic hb w/ a blown engine through a honda-tech member. And so the project begins.
1st goal was to get the car running and to get it certified to avoid any problems w/ getting it smog checked & when getting pulled over by cops. And so I had the B18 GSR engine/transmission put in, had the wiring done clean style, RSR exhaust, Ingen intake, Fluidyne radiator, and took out most of the interior.
I took it to the referee @ the burea of automotive (Wow, these guys check everything.) They had three guys checking the car & after 30 min. of me sweating bullets, one of them said I passed & that it was one of the cleanest swaps he's ever seen. Wooohooo!!! I almost had tears when they put the certificate sticker under my hood.
Next step, suspension. I was thinking of going 5 lug & adding coilovers. After that, I'm planning to get a custom made roll cage, taking out the dents (many little dents), getting a bumper cover & painting the car it's original color (black). This should all take months & lots of $$$ that I don't have but when all said & done, it'll be worth it & I'll be out on the track.

Congrats. When I had to get a mechanical waiver for my hatch here in Ohio, the manager of the eCheck station looked under the hood (if he wasn't a moron you can see my test pipe through my engine bay) for a minute or two and passed me. I'm good until my birthday next spring by which time Ohio is getting rid of emissions testing.

I bought the car for $1K
$5.5K on the complete motor set, new a/c bracket, cooling system parts (water pump/t-belt/drive belts, seals, etc.), exhaust, o2 sensor, intake, radiator.
$850-1K in labor

It passed the inspection parts the first time but not the Emissions Smog test because It was high on the HC, CO, NOx & all it needed was a new O2 sensor. On the 2nd try (u get one more free test), they inspected the car again (I don't see why???) & it passed both the inspection and Emissions. It barely passed on the HC .... Max HC was 121 and mine was @ 120.

Good point. What's the point of getting all this if some dumbass is gonna jack my car. I was actually looking for a good alarm system. Any recommendations? I haven't been enjoying the car as I should because I'm affraid to leave it anywhere. Sucks because I went through all this trouble to make it legal on Cali. streets but I gotta be affraid of it getting stolen. After hearing about my friends & honda-tech cars (ITRs/civics) being stolen, alarm is the next move. Thanks for the reminder.

No emissions in Victoria? My wife lived in Burnaby and she had "AirCare." I thought that was a federal thing (everything else seems to be run by the feds in Canada ).

Yeah I know what you mean about some of the cali. refs ... the guys that did mine were okay but I got this feeling that they were dying to make me not pass. Just glad it all worked out cause another $98 would hurt.
From my personal experience I know the swap has to be clean, so glad to hear that their are other clean swaps out there.
