Civic Gas Mileage
I have a stock Civic Lx. I keep it pretty well maintained, but unable to break the 30 mpg highway barrier. Is this expected?

Re: Civic Gas Mileage (blackhatchy)
That's the strange thing. Not only is it auto, I never punch it. Seems like companies advertise their mileage optimistically. Either way, I'm happy. Just a few miles per gallon off.

Its all about how fast you travel and how well maintained your car is. Your car might be stock but if you got shitty spark plugs and a dirty air filter and stuff like that your car won't get that good gas mileage that Hondas usually get.

If your going 70mph@ 3k/rpm, its going to use less gas than stop and go traffic with the engine reving to 3k/rpm trying to pull a 2500 lbs car from 0mph. Depends on how much work the eninge is doing.

Shift early and try to use the highest gear possible that still gives decent acceleration. One thing people know is acceleration uses more gas than cruising but one thing most don't know is braking also uses more gas than cruising. So lay off them brakes and just drive... Otherwise sell your civic and buy and Insight, LOL!

Re: Civic Gas Mileage (HondaFanatic708)
As far as badly maintained plugs or filters, the car is not even two years old, and I do everything that is recommended in the owner's manual. Is there perhaps better than new honda stock sparkplugs to up the mileage?

Re: Civic Gas Mileage (narbeh1983)
I get well over 30 with my EX. I just took a trip down to FLA and got over 30MPG with my Accord doing 80-85 all the way!!

Re: Civic Gas Mileage (95lx4dr)
I commute 100 miles a day roughly so I watch my gas mileage alot. Beating on it hard I get 28 mpg in town driving while cruising between 65-85 on the trip I average 38.75 mpg right now with highs of 41 and lows of 36 on the highway. It sounds to me like something is robbing your mpg. Just my .02 worth.

Re: Civic Gas Mileage (narbeh1983)
24 in winter
26-28 in summer
ex 5speed high flow cat, apexi exhaust, jun chip, dc 4-1 headers
the jun chip kicked my gas mileage in the A$$, do not chip it if you want gas mileage, i lost at least 4-6mpg. didn't do much for performance either.

Can't break 30 mpg on highway??? Sounds like something is up.
I spank my '94 Civic silly. Worst I get is 32, best EVER was 46 mpg...
Maintenace/service may change your scenario.
Good luck
