Civic Ex 97 ecu question?
Does anyone know what ecu this is for the numbers on the side of the ecu read 37820-P2P-A12 1213-281196 When i bought my girlfriends motor swap they gave me this ecu but it is still throughing codes when i plug this one in. They salvage yard said it was for a manual and a sohc vetc but i dont think it is. If anyone could help me i would appriciate it.

Re: Civic Ex 97 ecu question? (nub)
The thing is i have 3 diff. ecu's and i know the one that is in her car now is an automaitic the other two im not sure though becuase they both only have three ports for the ecu but they are different on both. The one ecu wont even start the car it is a p2p and the other one also a p2pwill start the car but it drives like **** and throws the IACV code. I use the automatic one because it works the best for now even though it shows codes being thrown.

p2p-A12 is ecu code for later d16y8. p2p-A31 is for 96-97 (or maybe 98) d16y8. So, what do u mean is A12 cant even start? and A31 starts but it has idle problem? heard about the idle problem can be solved by swap in manual intake manifold, not firmed yet. Let me know if you have solved the problem. I'm going to to do the same swap in this coming summer. Thanks.

All the ecu's have 4 plug, but look into the plug to see which ones has pins. The manual ecu only use A,B,and D for 96-98 civic (obdIIa), and the 99-00 civic use a,b,c (obdIIb), the IACV is different the auto has an electronic sensor and 5spd doesn't. If you look into it and see pins in all four spots, it's an auto ecu.

Err...come again?
Auto tranny'd engines used a 3-wire 'rotary' style IACV....and even some manual tranny'd engines used it too, such as the D16Y7.
The 2-wire style IACV used a spring/plunger type of arrangement.
Either way, neither of them are "sensors", like the MAP, TPS, or VSS....they are actuated valves.

oops, but the automatic throttle has an electonic sensor on the bottom of it, and the 5spd one just has a bypass line....

Re: Civic Ex 97 ecu question? (partsguyonline)
Could you please be more specific?
What is this electronic sensor you refer to? Are you really referring to the location of the actual IACV?
I'll bite on that; the auto IACV's are mounted on the t-body where-as the manual's have'em mounted on the manifold.

the auto is (3 wire) IACV, and the manual is mounted on the rear intake manifold(2 wire)

Re: Civic Ex 97 ecu question? (vizeta)
Do you have to buy the manual IM or can you just switch the sensors on them? Yes u were right about the p2p a31 and the p2p a12. the a12 wont even start and the a31 is the bad idle. Thanks for your help.

Re: Civic Ex 97 ecu question? (hondaeg95)
heard about somebody can apply manual IACV on auto manifold by drilling. not sure what's the detail but I'm waiting answer from the guy's email.
And a question for "partsguyonline", do u think I can rewire obdIIb ECU for odbIIa car? Thanks.

Yep, just purchase an OBD2b-to-OBD2a conversion harness.
One problem you might run into is with the fuel tank pressure sensor. 99-00's had'em but not all 96-98's had'em.
A Helms would let you know for sure.
