changing oil every 3,000 miles??
i do change my oil every 3,000, but why do i hear from people here and there that 3,000 is too soon, and that 5,000 miles is more practical. im kinda feuding with someone over it, so if anyone knows any info on this, or just has some input, please post.
thanks again h-t

Mine gets changed after every track day or 2k mi. whichever comes first. 5K is way to many IMO regardless of oil type (yes even these high mileage oils). Oil begins to break down after a certain amount of mileage and it's protection becomes less.

3000 to 5000
depends on the oil...
a lot of synthetics are 7500 now.
IMO changing it when it gets semi-dirty is the best way to do it...

Oils theses days are pretty advance, thats why you see new cars n hondas with oil changes around 7k..basicly the oil still does its job and still holds past 5k..read an artical some where..dunno where...tired...

i change mines every 3,000 miles. i would much rather spend 7 bucks for oil and filter to keep the engine running, rather than shorten the life of the engine and having the engine die faster.

if it is city street driving change it every 3000 but if it is freeway mileage then do it every 5000. i change the oil on my civic every 2000 because it is healthy for a motor especially when they are worked hard. i also have a diesel suburban and i change tho oil on that every 3000 and that is heavy duty oil that can take a beating. but regular motor oil i would go with the oil change every 3000 unless it is all freeway miles then i would do every 5000.

5k isn't really that bad. 3k was the standard for a long time. but with todays technology synthetics have come a long way. bmws get scheduled oil service every 15k miles. Most of them use castrol 5w30.

Change? I always thought you just feed it oil and change the filter every so often.
My car loooooves oil, it just runs right though it.

I change mine every 2,000 miles. I do it for piece of mind and for protection..plus if you let it go to 5,000,etc the oil gets dirty and dark and just stains the inside of your motor and eventually it starts sludging..you can pop my valve cover at 155k miles on my D16Z6 and its almost spotless under there..very light brown..I have seen motors with 50k miles on them and they have had the oil changed so rarely that its PITCH black under the valve cover..worthless motor IMO at that point.
