Default Changing 99 civic SI rear brakes..

I was changing my rear brakes on 99 SI and both the bolts that hold the dust shield on the drivers side broke practically once I put the ratchet on and barely turned it with one hand.. So anyway, is crap getting into the brakes area a real issue or can I just leave it off and not worry about drilling those bolts out?.. I'm not too sure even how to go about drilling out the one in the back so i'd rather just not worry about it unless its really going to be an issue..

The ones covering the caliper? I suppose it would be alright to run without them. But I think dirt and grime will cake on the ebrake assembly.
