Changed timing belt/water pump/fuel filter and now idles bad?
Basically just changed the timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, dist cap and rotor, spark plugs, wires. start the car up, idles fine....i drive for like 10 mins then come to a red light....
i get to the light and car cant hold revs and dies. on top of that im blowing black smoke out the exhaust.
anyone have this issue or know what it may be.

the thread says it idles bad, yet the first sentence of your thread says that it starts and idles fine...... either way it has something to do with what you just did. go back and double check everything you replaced. paying close attention to your valve and ignition timing.

Because you just changed the water pump and so opened up the cooling system, I would start with a thorough purge of the cooling system. Per the manual's steps, make sure you wait until the cooling fan comes on twice. This may take 45 minutes or so of idling.
Air in the cooling system will cause certain sensors and parts like the IACV to be inadequately cooled. They will send the wrong signals to the engine computer.
I saw exactly the same symptoms a few years ago and a purge fixed it up. A few months earlier I had changed the thermostat and had not done an air purge, so doh.

Its your timing, i would put money on it. Recheck at the distributor but most likely its a tooth or so off. Black smoke plus bad idle is your timing, i went through the same thing before.

Glad i could help haha i know how much of a pain it can be messing with a bad idle. I tried everything else then checked timing, which i probably should have done first.
