CF Hoods: Are Hoodpins Necessary?
I just ordered my CF Duckbill, and I was thinking of getting a CF Hood as well. One thing I have always had a question on is hoodpins, some Ive seen with, some without. Id really like to just have the hood, since it looks cleaner, but then again I dont want the hood to fly off on the highway or something. For a VIS hood would it be alright without? Also does anyone know if they come with holes for windshield washer squirters?

VIS makes some nice quality CF Hoods. They definitely are a nice way to go. They will require hood pins though because one of my friends hood popped open while on the highway. Hood pins are a safety precaution since the CF hoods are so light. The VIS hoods also have the windshield washer holes predrilled. Good luck with it.

VIS makes **** hoods....
I have 2 friends that both lost the outer skins on the freeway. You want pics? I can go take some of my buddy's hood, it's still at the shop.
With ANY CF/Fiberglass hood, I would always use hoodpins for extra protection.

Get pins/locks. Better safe than sorry. If your hood pops open at 75mph it causes some serious damage, not to mention that other cars the hood could hit behind you.

On my Fiber Images hood i never used hood pins. I had the hood for over a year, not once did I have any sign of the hood opening one tiny bit...

No problems with it shifting around @ high speeds even though the clamp looks like it could have been molded on a bit better (lack of resin) Had the car over a hundred several times with no grill and it's still there..

Also: Someone on this board used those cool little racing screw latches instead of pins. Much cleaner IMO. Definately the way to go. Personally I would get them coated black, then install them.

I am under the belief that your hood will only rip up if you do not properly have the hood latch adjusted or the hood is of rather poor quality. I have done well over 120 in three different cars with out hood pins and not seen a problem. If you are that scared about it for a day at the track or a road trip, use some tape.
To me it is really not worth horrifying your hood for 95% daily driving... For the other 5% use tape

tc's carbon hood here, no problems and i went over 110 numerous times on my way home from cali. hood latches are the ugliest thing you could put on a 400-500 dollar hood imo
