Default CEL and vtec

i drove my car for the first time tonight but i kept getting a CEL.i would turn off the car and start it back up and it wouldnt be there anymore.it did it about 10 times.anyway,i raced my roommate and i still had vtec wile the CEL was on.

when i got home i checked for codes and didnt get any.does anyone have any idea why i am getting CEL`s and still have vtec?

a sensor maybe going bad.....so next time you are driving and get a CEL pull over and check it w/o turning the car off
