CEL = check engine light
Depending on the emissions in your area, it can be pretty illegal (when you get your car inspected).
Just fix the damn codes and don't worry about it. Your car may be running like **** with the CEL on, so why not get it fixed?

If you sell your car, and the person you sell it to doesnt know you undid the light and something happens when they go to get it emissioned or a mechanic sees it and tells them they could come back and sue you.

You're not looking hard enough. It's down there. You can also go to Autozone and they'll tell you what it is for free.
