CEL Code Help
Hey everyone. i have a obd2 1998 civic dx hatchback with an LS engine from a 98 integra (obd2). my check engine light came on last night and the speedometer instantly stopped working but everything else works. i checked the ecu for the codes with the pin and it came up with the numbers 17, 20, 41, and 65.
I know that:
- 17 is the VSS - vehicle speed sensor
- 20 is the electronic load detector ?? anyone know what that is or how to fix it??
- 41 is the primary oxygen sensor heater
- 65 is the secondary oxygen sensor heater wire (black wires)
my buddy and i are going to the junkyard later to get a vss n O2 sensors from an Ls but we have no idea how to fix the electronic load detector.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks all.

Vss is VEHICLE speed sensor, lol.
Both your O2 sensors are shot it seems, get those replaced.
As for your code 20, sounds like maybe its an alternator problem. Get it checked out.

the ELD is located under the engine bay fusebox. It's usually not defective, and the problem is caused by wiring problems. If you can get it cheap, you can try replacing the fusebox, but it may not be the fix you're looking for.
I find it less than coincidental that you have both O2 sensors, the VSS, and the ELD click over at the same time. Chances are there's a fuse blown somewhere, or a short in the wiring.
I've actually heard of a lot of ELD problems stemming from bad O2 sensors or an O2 sensor wire grounding out and sending all sorts of weird signals. Replace both your O2 sensors, and double check that there are no bare spots or breaks in your wiring harness for the O2 sensors.

^Agreed
that series of codes is common with a blown alternator fuse (under the dash)
or
the main wiring harness has made contact with the intake manifold
Honda released a service bulletin about this, but somehow I cant seem to find it now. Its getting more common as the cars get older and the harness cover wears down.

Exactly what I was talking about, but worded far better.
