Does anybody know where I can get carbon fiber or FRP doors for a '96-00 Civic? I need the full doors, not just the inner door skins. I'd like for them to be able to accept factory inner liners for classes which require full interior. Also they have to look OEM (read: wrinkle/wave free after painting). Does anybody have any experience with the ones on eBay? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if they make carbon fiber doors for civics, but they do make them for Skylines and Silvia's. Try Manaray Motorsports. I heard they do alot of Carbon Fiber.

I eMailed them and they claim that they don't have CF doors for a '96-00 Civic yet.

i think i remember seeing j's racing making lightweight doors but i dont think its carbon fiber though

I think CF doors would be a little hard since when closing or someone slamming the door shut, wouldn't be CF-friendly.

I believe Backyard special designed CF doors for EG's and EK's, would be tough to get your hands on a set, as not many people can get their parts.

True, you should be a little more careful, but I stopped by a friends shop on Friday, where he's building an S2000 for RSR for D1, and they're using carbon doors, trunk, fenders, bumpers, and trunk lid. The door itself weighs about 2lbs, and is very stout, doesn't flex at all, just has to be pushed all the way in, instead of slammed like the stockers.

May i ask why you want carbon fiber doors?

if you plan on doing any sort of daily driving....spend your money elsewhere.

a side impact with C/F doors means a dead driver.

i wopuld not get CF doors unless it is like a show car. Especially at those prices. I would look for weight savings somewhere else. I would never give up saftey for weight.

I agree that C/F doors are not safe.

But finding a better spot to shave weight is hard. Stock EK doors (bare) with the impact beams weigh something like...70-90 LBS

now...with a C/F door chillen at a solid 2 pounds...you loose some serious weight on both sides.

I went and checked that car out yesterday w/ opi. That thing is friggin awesome. Can't wait to see it in action.

BTW: They do make cf doors for civics. Just don't remember who makes them.

To figure out your power to weight ratio:
1. Determine vehicles weight, curb weight/MT w/o driver, gross weight w/driver
2. Determine vehicles horsepower
3. Determine vehicles torque
4. Divide the weight of your car(w/driver) by the horsepower
(Your answer will be the weight required to lose in order to get about 1 HP)
5. Divide the weight of your car by the torque
(Your answer will be the weight required to lose in order to get about 1 lb-ft of torque)

Now for the stripping:
OEM passenger seat w/brackets
rear seat and cushion
rear seatbelt brackets
head unit/speakers
floor mats
spare tire trunk liner
spare tire and jack
OEM fuel tank(1 gallon of fuel = 6.2lbs, replace with smaller tank)
power steering
headliner
air conditioning
door panels
driver's seat(replace w/racing seat, duh!)
factory battery(replace with lightweight performance battery)
exhaust components(aftermarkets are lighter)
OEM crank pulley(see above)
OEM hood, doors, and trunk(or hatch)
OEM wheels(another duh)
OEM flywheel
sound deadening material
dash support
roof support webbing
door beams/side impact
rear speaker/side panel metal support
misc. brackets(ECU bracket, fuse box bracket. etc.)
remove extra firewall layers(only need one for racing)
race motor mounts brackets

i think anyone with half a brain knows hpw safe a cf door would be.
i think the fact that you cant use glass windows would be a dead giveaway in trying to hide the fact you got cf doors..
cf would be nice compared to fiberglass that chips along the edges

Thanks for the link, man... Those Backyard Special doors are priced a little bit more than what I wanted to spend. Is it true you can't use factory glass with FRP or CF doors? Some classes prohibit the use of lexan windows, but I'm sure there's a way to use factory glass. There's always a way

Blowing through the traps at 150mph+ will be unsafe no matter if you have metal doors or CF doors. Or were you thinking I'm just doing this for looks?

if you don't get a roll cage that comes across the door area, I'm coming out there and smacking you. That's like taking out your seatbelts to save weight. Its just stupid for a daily driven car
