Car shoots flames. Is this bad? ;)
Last night I was driving with my friends. I turned off a side street and got on it and bounched off the rev limiter for a sec. The guy behind me said I was shooting a flame out the edge of my exhaust. I'm running a greddy sp and a test pipe on my b16. Is this normal or is it a sign of a rich or lean condition?

I've seen sackdz type R do it at a auto X before. It just means your running really rich when that happend. Unspent gas vapor getting all the way back the pipe before it ignites. I could be wrong but that was what I was told. Bouncing rev limiter can't be that great but the fire was from running pretty rich.

I don't usually bounce off the limiter but the cold weather kinda makes traction a problem and the tires broke loose close to redline causing the RPM's to jump pretty quick. I guess rich is better than lean but still if it's not good I want to make sure to do something about it.

id definately get rid of some of that fuel somehow. you can burn out your muffler quicker by shooting flames...trust me. i did on my old custom exhaust. it actually melted all the sound deadening material and it was caked on the inside walls of the muffler. that es was dead after i took it off to check it out...all due to running to rich with advanced ignition timing.

haha, my roommates car shoots flames sometimes. he has the msd two step rev-limiter, so when he holds it, it just keeps on popping. he has a straight through muffler and a punched cat, and without the silencer, it will shoot flames up to 2 feet long. haha we were bored one day, so we made a video of it.

Dont worry about your timing or a/f ratio, its just the fact that you hit your rev limiter the ecu cut spark to the plugs but you still got fuel and with a test pipe it went all the way out your exhaust then flash burned.
