Default Cloud of smoke... and no start

Parked my car at a friends yesterday and when i got out there was lots of white steam or smoke come from behind the motor/intake manifold area, And some coolant on the ground.

Took the car home with no problems and was operating and normal temp.
parked it for the night, and drove it down the block this morning.
brought it back home, turned it off and back on and it died right away.
Cranks but wont start now.

It has to be throwing a CEL. Sounds like your water pump might have gone out but that is on the side of the block. Coolant levels?

You also might tel us what car you're talking about.
