Car pulls to the right when accelerating..
I have a 2000 Civic Si.
Problem: Car pulls to the right when accelerating and ONLY when accelerating. I tried to get a re-alignment 3 times by two different shops. One shop, Goodyear of Seaside California, tried 2 times. At the first visit they told me one of the driveshafts what shorter than the other. I dont know anything about that. So they decide to swap the right front wheel with the left front wheel. Problem still not solved. Second visit the man told me it was a torque pull that was causing the problem.
Note that this is the only shop that gave their opinion on my problem. I have yet to find a Honda specialist that will diagnose my problem. Has anyone here have the same experience or any tips.
My own opinion of why the pull is occuring:
1. My tires are almost bald. They have 5k miles on them.
2. Any of my two front shocks have been blown.
3. My car seems to be lowered (purchased as is) and it could be a hack lowering job

Nope the shops were right one half shaft is shorter than the other therefore the power to one half shaft is transfered more efficently, therefore cause the car to pull to one side more that the other and i will bet it pulls to the side with the shorter half shaft

Re: Car pulls to the right when accelerating.. (L4NDO)
All FWD Hondas have different length drive shafts otherwise the differential would be right smack in the middle (possible, but not for a Honda). So that's not the reason otherwise all Honda's would pull to the right like yours.
I'm not smart so I'm just going to BS this. If you accelerate, weight transfers to the rear. Say the right rear suspension (passenger side) soaked up more than the other, your car then may pull to the right, right? Anyway, just a thought. Good luck fixing it, having a car do that sounds like a pain.

Re: Car pulls to the right when accelerating.. (NOSpeed97)
GEt a LSD and will solve prob my car does that because with the open diferentials we have under hard driving like launching or powershifting into second my car would kick the wheel and the car moved slightly to the right get a camber kit and after market shocks and just practice and you willl get used to it but if under normal acceleration you have this prob then the prob is more serious

damn ...you wasted your money on those alignments dude.... easy way to fix it is put and 18 inch rim on the right and 15 on the left..... and then put some JB weld on your rotors .... takes about 10 minutes of free time but you gain 10 seconds on the tracks...

Re: Car pulls to the right when accelerating.. (julow)
I wouldn't want to want to waste money on a JDM, plus I'm in California. That means I won't pass SMOG. I don't want to bother with that. Also I don't want to purchase a limited slip yet. Probably later on when I go turbo, but I want a normal fix to this without adding that LSD.
Here is some other specs on my car:
24,xxx miles on it.
Aftermarket wheels that are 15 inch, don't know about offset (it does not rub)
Thanks for the replies so far.

I found info about it and it seems to be a torque steer. Does anyone have fixes on that.

Re: Car pulls to the right when accelerating.. (L4NDO)
i think if you take out your motor, and send it to me...then that would solve your problems...but, that pulling im sure is nothing to really worry about...all FWD cars have some torque steer..if I aint mistaken...the right/front wheel is the only tire with "real" power behind it?? so it seems normal...

hmmmm torque steer sucks but its just a part of having any front wheel driving car. i mean u can change it, but why? maybe i am just stupid, but i love torque steer. it keeps you on ur toes

Re: Car pulls to the right when accelerating.. (deepnite)
Well, I wasn't aware that this torque steer was normal in FWD cars. I just took it to the shop and that's what they told me. But now that I know it's normal in our cars, I'm okay with it. I'm considering a LSD when I add a turbo in my car, but thats in like 1-2 years from now. Thanks guys.
