Car needs gas to start and stay on
Sup peeps! So I just slapped the D16y18 back together after a head gasket change. After praying to every God I know that it would start (it's been an Odyssey), the car fired up. However, it will only start if I give it gas and will only stay running if I continue to give it gas. It runs smooth and sounds good while I rev it but as soon as I let off it revs down and shuts down when it reaches idle. I tried it 3 or 4 times and tried holding 2k rpm for a minute with the same result. My money is on it being something simple but I'm traumatized by now lol.

Also worth noting is that the car was not having that issue before and the car sat for about a month while I got the head gasket replaced.

Now that it has started, do a compression test to verify the head gasket took properly.

What model/year chassis is the D16Y8 installed in ??? Also, what EXACTLY did you change on the engine that you "slapped together" or changed during the install ??? Is the IACV plugged in and is the plug the correct one ???

So it looks like a false alarm. After starting it up a few times and maintaining throttle the car started on it's own and ran just fine. I will follow up if that changes as I only got to test it for a short time due to what seems to be a bad o-ring on the radiator drainage ****.
