I just installed a 99 b16a2 into my 98 civic. The car fires up and runs great, once i take it around the block it runs good for a few minutes then starts to bog and loose power. I can smell burnt coolant and the up hose is very hot while the bottom is cold, while the radiator is steaming hot. I also noticed that the fan isnt turning on, the temperature guage never said the car was overheating but it sure smelt like it was. There is also no signs of weird smoke from the tail pipe . I know the thermostat isnt very old but could this be the issure? any input would be great.

try removing the thermostat and running it. with no thermostat it will just flow coolant continuously. if its still overheating then u have another issue

Or he could try bleeding the cooling system? Your engine is not meant to run without a thermostat.

you probably have air in your coolant system. do what other poster stated and bleed your coolant system. never run without a thermostat. they are their for a reason, to allow your engine to come up to operating temp quickly and safely.

Jump the fan switch, it should turn the fan on when the key is in accessory. If not, then there is a fan problem.

Check the coolant temp sensor, or the gauge cluster, bleed the system, check for leaks, too.

Well i replaced the thermostat and radiator today. Fan still isnt turning on. Took it around the block and it seemed okay, but now im getting a bad fluctuating idle. The iacv and fitv are clean. Im throwing a code for no IAT because i dont have the proper plug yet, could this be the cause of a horrible fluctuation idle?
