CAR LOCKED!!
ok dont know if this is the right place for this but i recently purchased a 94 civic hatch and the salesman forgot to tell me that the key he gave me only turns the ignition on i need a totally different key to open the car up so yesterday my husband calls me from work at midnight that he locked the car up while he was working and we cant go to a dealership to get a copy because the tile wont be ready for a few days .
Does anyone have any suggestions on how we may open the car up without actually messing up the window?
thanks
yes i know its lame

How did the car get locked? The drivers door cant be locked from the inside on all of the hatches i have seen, they need to be locked with a key from the outside. Anyway, i would call a towing company, most will unlock you for like 20 bucks.

a locksmith screwed my car up pretty bad when he tried to get mine open. Broke all the clips on the outter molding and that vertical piece at the back of the door. Just a heads up

Re: CAR LOCKED!! (1TurboHatch)
well he locked it from the inside so noone would temper with it but he didnt know the key he has only starts the car and doesnt work on the doors.
what sucks is that we would call a AAA or locksmith but he has no moneys it all went to buying the hatch and he doesnt get paid till tommorrow so he tells me to bring him a hanger i dont know though he has a short temper and ill know hell get tired of trying and break the window.Just thought id try seeing if anyones knows a way.

Re: CAR LOCKED!! (chad)
so do i. If you hold the door latch (like your opening the door) and then lock it, you bypass the 'anti-lock-your-keys-in-the-car" thing

Take a wedge-shaped doorstop. Pry your door back just a touch..... wedge that f*cker in-there untill the door opens far enough for you to reach the lock.
And not too far either, or you'll brake something.
Hope this isnt too late.
*edit That is what the AAA guy did on my hatch.

seriously? are you really asking me this?
Ya know the things that stops a door from closing... the little-thingy (tech term) that you wedge under a door to hold it open.
Go to Ace hardware and ask for a wedge-shaped door-stop and they will take you right to them.

But dont get a wood one or you'll damage something.. get a rubber one.
Good luck.
ps-no you're not dumb (you should never call yourself dumb) you're just ignorant.

Re: CAR LOCKED!! (hatchfem)
couple of things that dont sound right about your story..
1. you bought a car from a honda dealership? if so you dont need any title, they know you paid for the car so they can make a key for you probably for free ..
2. even if you didnt buy it from a honda dealership. that other dealership just has to call one and then can verify you own the car and make a key for you...
3. how do you knot know its the same key?:
a) dealers dont normally leave doors unlocked. so someone had to use a key to open the door for you to test drive etc....
b) how did he open the door before going to work??? im sure you dont leave your doors unlocked over night?
4. and why waste your time on the internet asking us how to do it... all this time you could have used your credit card which i know you have to pay to get it opened.. so yes you do have money to get it done correctly
like i said this sounds very fishy...
goodluck anyway

Re: (mwieczorek43)
or you can wrap a rag or two around it Like he said tho, hit that in just far enough to get a gap. Like less than 1/2". Then you can very easily get it open with h hanger. Heres a tip if you do the hanger hook thing. Put tape over the sharp end!!!!! okby

Re: (adictionbass)
You're better off just picking him up and leaving the car there if its a trustworthy place and go to the dealer in the morning to get the right key to open the doors.

^^..Did i miss something, im sure u ment to pry the window and not the door cause that would cause damage most likely to the door frame.
