car has trouble starting
when i try and start my car, sometimes i just get a singular clicking noise, then nothing.
its very sporadic, sometimes my car will start right up, sometimes it will click a few times. . .
i just had an auto-manual swap done, if that means anything
anyone else have this problem?

- any specific ground i should check?
- car started up like a champ before the swap
- i dont see what the alternator has to do with startup, but it is 2 years old

Maybe the alternator that came with the swap isnt doing its job 100% and is putting a strain on the battery.
Grounds you should check. Battery, Tranny, Head, Thermostat housing.

i would have the alternator check, make sure it's not draining the battery.
also check all ground wires, make sure they are bolted down and where they are suppose to be. last but not least, have the starter checked out as well.

Re: car has trouble starting (ghost_ryder35)
I have this same problem too(with my '93 Civic Del Sol). Except mine eventually starts, and when it starts it starts up just fine. Its been happening periodically, and my friends tried banging on my starter, but that definitely doesn't work. Usually what I have to do is give it some time and try to start it again, and then it works. Its different every time. Sometimes I get out and look under the hood, and move the reservoir(radiator) to check the cables and see if they're on right, and get in my car, turn on the ac, then try to start it again (i got desperate), and it starts!
Strange!
Is this also what happened to you? How much is a starter, because I got a quote for 140 (parts & labor)? I don't want to get ripped off because I am a girl. Thanks

Re: car has trouble starting (poodia)
if you were asking me, i'm not sure how old the ignition components are, because I bought the car pre-owned last october. the car had been running beautifully until one day, i looked underneath the hood and noticed that my air intake had blown off of my car, the only thing left was the middle filter accordionlike part (sorry don't know the name) and the tube. Since then my car has been acting weird, my lights will come on suddenly when I set my alarm, my car won't start sometimes, and when i try to jump or start my car, the lights come on. Sometimes when I'm on the freeway, my spedometer will drop to zero even though I"m going like, 75-80. One time I was stopped and my spedometer went to 40. There's more but I'm at work so I will describe the rest of the problems later. Does anybody know what could be wrong with my car? I think its electrical. My friends think its my starter. What do you guys think?

Re: car has trouble starting (poodia)
Dude of course it's electrical.
Your starter is not going to cause those gremlins you're experiencing--otherwise known as electrical gremlins!
I can't help you with troubleshooting wiring though, sorry.
