cant get crank pulley off, help!

Default cant get crank pulley off, help!

i read the other post about this, my impact gun wont do it, neither will a 2ft breaker bar, i snapped two ratchets today trying. I also hit it a few times with a bfh to no avail, next im going to try heat. is there anyway i can remove the timing belt and replace it without removing this? the motor is out of the car, this is such a pain in the ***...also instead of jamming the flywheel i took this big chain ratchet i had and put it around the crank pulley to keep it from moving, am i doing this wrong?

where do u put that? onto the transmission housing?

also should i not be holding the crank pulley so it wont move while im trying to remove the nut? like just stop the flywheel from moving?

You put that in the crank pulley to keep it from moving, then use a socket w/ a breaker bar.

Ebay: they can be had for cheaper, but I believe you don't get the 'lever' part.

what im using now seems to be working, its not letting the pulley move at all, but the damn thing wont budge and broke two of my good snap on ratchets. I figured i was maybe doing something wrong and that you could hold the crankshaft pulley from moving cause it needed to turn with the bolt or something...hmm

ill grab one off my buddy tommorow who works at honda, but personally i dont see how this will help me, the way im doing it my crank is not moving at all when i try and crack the bolt off, the crank bolt isnt threaded backwards or anything is it?

It'll give you better leverage and more torque, therefore, easier to get off.

not all crank pulleys have the hex hole in them. my d15 doesn't.


put the car in 4th gear. Have a buddy hold the brakes. Then use a BFBB to break the bolt loose.

I hope your clutch doesn't suck though lol.

I used PB Blaster and let it sit for a while. Came off really easily then. Of course I used a breaker bar, heat, and a tool to hold the cams in place before I tried the PB Blaster.

You don't need to remove the crank pulley to replace the timing belt. You just have to loosen the tensioner.

i've never had a problem taking them off with impacts. they always zip right off. are you sure you have it's torque set high to break it loose?

the motors out of my car btw, forgot to mention that. How can i change the belt without taking the pulley off? cause wont the lower timing cover not come off as well?

it took five of us to get mine off. with a 4 foot breaker bar. **** was funny when it poped loose

I have always used the Hex tool, a breaker bar with 3 ft metal tube and alot of *** while holding on to the bumper and using my legs to break it loose. (i've done three this way) With it out of the car i would suggest doing the same kind of thing but try to get where you can use your body weight and gravity to break it loose. It still will be difficult unless you are using a couple foot piece of pipe over the handle of your breaker bar. Good luck!

if i can replace the timing belt without removing it id wanna do that, is it possible? remember the motors out so i got lots of room, i wanna get the belt off so i can remove the head and put my other head on.

if you have a mini sledge hammer. position the 1/2 in rachet so the handle is pretty much level, then give it a couple whacks and it will pop right off

When you hit it try and it it dead on otherwise the ratchet could slip off and go flying

would it be doable if i removed the cover? the only part holding it from slipping off is the bottom, what if i gently cut it out so i could reuse it? im gonna try and get the bolt off again tommorow but im just thinking incase i cant.

Ingersol-Rand 2135QTi impact wrench, 30+ gallon tank, 130psi, done deal. That wrench has 1000ft/lb of reverse torque...yeah, best $250 impact wrench you'll ever need to buy.

if i got the timing belt cover off well say would i have the room to remove the timing belt and then reinstall?
