You could put a 92-95 SI but not a 99-00

no you cant the y8 is a d series motor, where the 99-00 si is a B series motor. if your tranny went out on you on your y8 then any tranny from 92-00 off any d series will work.

Also, your motor comes with the best tranmission avaliable for the DSeries motors so if you need a replacement tranny, buy the same one you have now.

The gearing might be the best dseries tranny but it definitely isn't the strongest.... The steel shifter forks are superthin and don't do well with any hard shifting... The 92-95 si trannies are a lot stronger. The forks are made out of aluminum with some pretty heavy duty webbing so they don't flex... They should have added the webbing to the steel shift forks on the y8's trannies then they would be the best....

I wish a 99-00si tranny would fit on a dseries motor.....

Destroyer of Dseries trannies....... 2-y7trannies and 3-y8 trannies Currently running a z6 tranny for the last 40,000 miles with no problems.... y7-t 195whp

No. The D16Z6 and D16Y8 transmissions are the shortest from all the D-Series.

Only way to get even shorter gears is custom building your transmission with hybrid gears and different final drive.

Well i cant find anything cheap so it looks like i might have to go with the si tranny. So what im wondering is are the ratios about the same? Am i going to lose any performance? I heard they were different but dont really know much. Any help will be appreciated.
