Default can a torch kill a o2 sensor

ok so I went to meinekie cause i needed an o2 bung welded on my cat. I couldnt get my old o2 sensor off my old cat cause it was siezed on there. SO next thing I know is I look and the guy has a torch right on my o2 sensor heating it up to get the thing out. Before this I had a solid CEL light. Now it blinks number 51 for an integra which is the o2 sensor. Is it possible they killed it. Cause it says satisfaction guaranteed and if it is possible im going to them to get my money back or a new o2 sensor. Thanks.

I would think so as well. If they got it anywhere near the wiring that could be trouble, but remember, an 02 sensor sits right in the exhaust all day long, so it's not exactly a fragile thing in the heat.

oxy/acteylene torch is way hotter than an exhaust.

I will have to agree with everyone else here, your exhaust damn well better not be as hot as a torch, especially an oxy-acetalene torch.

Ok I went to meineke and spoke to the same guy that I spoke to last time(just an employee) and he said theres nothing he can do about it. Thats the chance you take to get the o2 sensor out, and its not their part so they dont warrantee it. Which is BS cause first of all, they didnt say look we cant get it out with a wrench do you want us to heat it up, but we may break it. They just went ahead and did it anway. Should of given me a disclaimer or something. Otherwise if I would of known I would of soaked it all night in wd40 and penetrating lube to get it out, or could of torched it myself. And its still their work they should warranty along with their products. Thats like if im having a exhaust put on by them and they gota drill something and drill a hole into my gas tank. What are they goin to say oh well you didnt buy the gas tank from us so tough ****.

Im calling the owner of the place tomorrow. Bottom line their work should be warranteed which was to put the o2 sensor into the new cat, and they should of asked me first before putting my o2 sensors life in danger. Had I had a choice I would of said dont do it.

Before breaking your car they should tell you, but that hardly ever tell you anything. Enough yelling might help though. Good luck

i used a torch to get mine out. that was 2 months ago, no problems. i cant see how heating up the pipe could hurt an o2 sensor unless the monkey behind the touch was flaming the wires or got it super hot.

yea that **** did get super hot like glow super hot. And he didnt just leave it on the pipe, it was right where the o2 and bung meet so it was probably shooting a lot of heat onto the o2 sensor

We used a torch to get mine out during my turbo install. It worked fine afterward. I guess yours was an extreme situation.

Tell them that you will call the corporate office. They should start bending over backwards for you. If it's a franchise they could be heavily fined and investigated. If not do it anyway. Also have it checked by another mech. Make sure that they broke it. At the delearship I worked at they would break stuff by accident and would go out of their way to get it fixed for free. You'll have a better chance of getting it fixed the more you complain. At least at the dealership you will.

Yep, I've been doing it for years. Used to do it a lot back in the days when I built mustangs. But that was just a simple torch method to burn everything off
