Default Can someone explain something to me about VTEC?

Alright, I was watching this video and the car had a boosted B18C1 with VTEC. Now when the guy shifts it seems like he is constantly redlining. Someone told me that it has something to do with Vtec, but couldn't it just be that he is a bad driver and doesn't let the RPMs slow a bit before he shifts into a higher gear or power shifting or something? I'm trying to learn as much as I can, thanks!

Sorry, it's late, lol. I guess what I'm asking is why do people say that engines with VTEC redline so much?

Loss of Traction most likely. I know what you're talking about. I've seen and been in boosted vtec hondas. You're refering to the moments in videos where the turbo starts to spool, and once it crosses over into vtec the needle drops quickly and he's punching the limiter. Tire spin

I've yet to own a turbo/vtec setup...I've been NA forever :x

wtf does vtec have to do with redlining? Any car will redline.

That is a combination of

1. Wheelspin
2.LargeTurbo

With a larger turbo you don't make boost untill later in the rev-range. So you have to rev the **** out the engine to get your boost. That bouncing of the needle of the rev-limiter. It's keeps your connecting rods from being scattered all over the pavement. The driver is hitting the rev-limiter because he is getting massive wheel spin from his extreamly light and powerfull car. It also sounds cool.

Agreed, that turbo would be much more impressive at high speed...except for the fact that it can't spool up until the high revs...A car with much less hp would beat that because it would be able to put more to the pavement rather than slip.

Maybe it needs some nice M/T's

no traction and too much boost. Generally when racing you dont want to let the RPM's slow down. You want to keep them as high as possible. Check out some of best motoring videos, you'll lear something...
