Icon2 Can an igniter (ICM) go bad without throwing a CEL?

As the title states, can an igniter (or ignition control module) go bad without throwing a check engine light?

For anyone more interested in helping me out, here is the original thread:

Thanks Ron. Still trying to figure out that start problem if you have any more ideas. Tried a different map sensor today, no luck. I'm going to order an igniter, but it won't be here until around Wednesday.

Some auto parts stores will test the ICM for you.

I'm pretty sure most AutoZones will test ICMs.

Hmm, I'll have to ask around because the Autozone I went to said they only test coils, not igniters (ICM).

Haha, yeah. Ron's been the only one helping me through this problem. Very helpful guy.
